Description
La Cage; et le gouffre de tes yeux’ from Sandra Chevrier for her debut museum solo exhibition ‘Cages and the Allure of Freedom’. Acrylic on canvas measuring a huge 72×60in. Done in 2018.
This is her largest and in my opinion best piece to date. A lot of her works are cut out from comics and pasted on but this one is all hand painted. From her most famous show and one of her most famous paintings so I am very happy to have her. The name of this piece translates to "The cage; and the abyss of your eyes"
Sandra Chevrier paints women’s faces, then paints snippets from famous comic books on top—always leaving the subjects’ fierce gazes uncovered. The hyper-realistic portraits explore notions of heroism, vulnerability, and gender expectations in American pop culture.

This is a fantastic piece of fine art. The hair is very painterly, making it obvious that it's a painting, but I'm still trying to figure out how the torn up comic book page was done. That's fantastic!

You wonder if it's the panels of the comic artform that made Cheverier choose to incorporate it for the cage theme.  Some nice Bagley art used.
