Musashi - From the Book of Five Rings, pg. 130 (1991)

Jiro Kuwata was a well known mangaka (manga artist) who began working in the field at the age of only 13. Kuwata is most well known in the US as the mangaka on the 1960s manga adaptation of Batman.

Musashi - From the Book of Five Rings is a short manga that adapts some of what can be found in The Book of Five Rings and tells stories from Miyamoto Musashi's life. The pages that I own (125-130) describe the (fictional/mythical) encounter between Musashi and Tsukahara Bokuden. Like Musashi, Bokuden is considered a "kensei" (sword saint). However, Bokuden died before Musashi was born, so their meeting would have been impossible. If you look through the translation in the description of each of these pages, you'll see that the manga explains this by suggesting that the encounter was a hallucination.

Translation (please excuse any mistakes):

No! The spirit of Tsukahara Bokuden appeared. I'm sure of it.

If it had a tail, it was definitely a raccoon!

What a stupid thing to say.
