Nathan is stuck in an isolation chamber due to the deadly disease that Xenia carries. To pass the time, they play chess across the window separating them. Xenia tries some chit-chat:
“Mmmm....”
“Uff! So, how long does it take you to move?”
“Chess is a game of strategy, Xenia. And, as such, it requires a lot of concentration.”
“Well, things like this bore me. Why don't you tell me something about yourself? Since you're a pretty good chess player, we might as well get to know each other. We’ll be spending a lot of time together, it seems...”
“There's not much to say.”
“Yeah.... with the work you do, who knows how many things you've seen.”
“Which doesn't mean I want to talk about it.”
“You're really grumpy, you know? But I still envy you. When I get out of here I want to travel around the world. And go to the moon, and Mars...”
“Have you been in this place long?”
“Long enough not to remember what it's like outside.”
“Check!”
“What? Yowzers. You're better than Harry… but still worse than me! Checkmate!”
“How do you do it? You beat me five times out of five!”
“What did you expect? I'm a genius! And you should hear me play the violin. Wait! I'll go get it.”
Harry is Xenia's robot guardian. Dr. Loveless sure is taking a long time to contact Alfa Agency on Nathan’s behalf…
