Original Cover Art - Maren (Mariano P�rez Clemente, Spanish, * 1946).

'Dark Abyss' is a commission painting which will be used as poster in a Science Fiction & Fantasy Calendar which I am working on.

Maren is a Spanish artist and musician born in Barcelona in 1946. Maren has been recognized for his skills in drawing and painting since he was young and honed his abilities at the prestigious Sant Jordi School of Fine Arts in Barcelona. He was encouraged by his brother, the renowned illustrator Sanjulian, to pursue a career in illustration, which he began in 1979, and has since worked for several international publishers such as Dell Publishing, Bantam, Dove, Fontana, and Mondadori. In addition to his illustration work, Maren is also well-regarded for his portrait paintings, including a commission to paint the main cast of the re-release of the �Star Wars� movies in 1996.

Oil on illustration board (size: 16.5 x 23.3 in). Comes with similar size prelim in pencil on illustration paper. Wooden gallery frame with professional museum acrylic glazing.

Even in pencil form, you can see that there would be plenty of textures in this piece that would be spectacular when Maren gets to paint it to fully flesh out the heightened vision of high fantasy.
