Petra Cherie page by Attilio Micheluzzi

I went to Lucca Comic Festival in Italy last weekend with one goal. To come back with a good Micheluzzi page. I have been a fan for years and own two pages already but there were different elements I wanted. I got most of what I want in this page but also couldn't help also getting the second page as it reminded me so much of Pratt and Corto in Siberia with Noel Sickles influence. So, got both. I had set my goal about 6 months ago. I found out there would be a Micheluzzi exhibition at the show too which was a bonus as a nice overview of his career and this work so I knew how it fit into his oeuvre.

The line work and storytelling are quite stunning. You can just imagine Alex Toth admiring the economy and efficiency of the page. You can see Ruben Pellejero and Tim Sale taking ques from this. The images of Petra are great but the last panel was the icing on the cake. The tilt in perspective is brilliant.

There are a number of key Italian artists that everyone that appreciates the medium should know but unfortunately don't. Some you know. Names like Micheluzzi, Battaglia, Magnus, Manara, Crepax, Jacovitti, Toppi, Serpieri, Pratt, Pazienza, Giordano should be as household as Romita, Colan and Everett.
