Description

When the FF go “over the river” to Grandmother’s house, they really go _over_ the river…

HAPPY THANKSGIVING, CAF!! As many of us reunite and reconnect with a wide assortment of relatives, friends, and loved ones this season, I wanted to mark the occasion by checking in with a group who are no strangers to the potential drama involved in family travel: Marvel’s First Family - the Fantastic Four.

A beautifully penciled and inked page by Bryan Hitch where the spotlight is given to that pinnacle of family holiday transport vehicles…. The Fantasticar!

Compact, yet airy, the Fantasticar allows its passengers plenty of elbow room and opportunities to really stretch out! Its sleek and Timely design is just as beautiful to look at as to look -from-! Unobstructed fields of view and unbeatable lines of sight are the norm for Fantasticar passengers: safety first… but sightseeing second! Check out the New York City skyline backdrop that is “business as usual” on the Richards family commute!

(As a completely unrelated aside, I found it very interesting to hear Bryan talk about illustrating nighttime city shots in one of his most recent art drops and conversations with Bill. He spoke about how you basically figure out the shapes of the buildings by working backwards: penciling in the light sources (windows, signs, etc.) and not wasting time or energy defining the black outlines, as those will come naturally when the inks are filled in. I loved hearing that insight into his craft.)

With a first panel that features Reed, Sue, Ben, She-Hulk, Franklin, and Valeria, the whole family is here… except for Uncle Johnny (like that one relative missing from the Thanksgiving table because of a flight delay or other weather-related incident). Just where could that flaming turkey have gotten to…? Reed, Sue, and Ben go off to investigate… in the Fantasticar!

Whether it’s long-range travel or just bopping around town, the Fantasticar is the only option you’ll ever need. Treat yourself to the World’s Greatest Driving Experience and fly “Fourth Class” today! Swing past your local dealer to test-drive one of these wonders, and remember: it’s not just fantastic! It’s not just a car! It’s the Fantasticar!

I hope all of CAF (plus all your loved ones) arrives safely to wherever you are bound this Thanksgiving! Have a great holiday, all!

Thank you once again, Bill and Bryan!

Hard to imagine a more profound way to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving and safe travels, than that spectacular last panel.  The same to you and yours my friend.

But daylight is so close
So don't you worry 'bout the Thing

We've got turkey alright (Oh yeah, oh yeah)
We've got gravy alright

Baby, don't Sue know?
All of the years gon' come and go
Baby, you just gotta Flame On your line
That every little Thing is gonna be alright
Baby, don't Sue know?
All of them tears Invisible
Baby, you just got car make tub go fly
We decide Hitch

We're got a Reed alright (Hey-hey)
We're gonna be Four right (Yeah, oh yeah, hey)
We've gone city all night

So all the family get together and everyone crams into a bathtub? Americans have strange traditions.

Man, you REALLY have me strongly considering buying one of those babies! I just need a LITTLE BIT more info on it though. Because it sounds like a pretty good vehicle, but can it…

  • Hit a real 0–60 in under 3 seconds (and what’s the 0–100 quarter-mile time)?

  • Actually reach the claimed top speed, or is that optimistic comic-book math?

  • How many horsepower and lb-ft of torque are we talking: Peak and where in the rev range?

  • What’s the curb weight and power-to-weight ratio (because numbers without weight are just fantasies)?

  • Does it have a proper gearbox? manual, dual-clutch, or lazy CVT? Any rev-matching / auto blip on downshift?

  • Is there launch control and a usable traction control system, or do you just hang on and hope?

  • Limited-slip differential (mechanical/Torsen/electronic)? Torque vectoring?

…also, does it have

  • Brembo / carbon-ceramic brakes or at least big ventilated rotors with meaningful pedal feel and adjustable brake bias?

  • Independent suspension with performance geometry (double-wishbone or equivalent) and adjustable/adaptive dampers (magnetorheological or actual tuneable shocks)?

  • Proper performance tires (size, compound, staggered setup) and wheels that don’t wobble when you point it at a corner?

  • A stiff chassis / carbon fiber monocoque or subframe to stop the whole thing from flexing under load?

  • Low center of gravity and near 50:50 weight distribution (or at least something sensible)?

  • Dry-sump oiling or anti-slosh baffling so the engine doesn’t starve on track?

  • Cooling for engine/transmission/brakes (big radiators, oil coolers, ducting)?

  • Active bits like adaptive aero / adjustable wing / underbody aero that actually increase downforce?

  • Real bucket seats (Recaro-style bolstering), harness compatibility, and a steering wheel that’s grippy and lets you feel what the car’s doing?

  • A precise rack-and-pinion steering with a quick ratio and not the numb “shopping-cart” feel of modern econo-steer?

  • Instrument basics: accurate tachometer, shift lights, HUD or clear gauges, and a data logger/telemetry for actual hot-lap analysis?

  • Serviceability / aftermarket support: Can you get parts, tune it, and not void everything if you add bolt-ons?

  • Exhaust note: Real, mechanical bark or polite science experiment hum?

  • Safety features (airbags, crash structure) and daily stuff: AC, cupholders, trunk space (Yes, hardcore cars still need groceries sometimes!)?

  • Warranty, maintenance intervals, insurance cost, and resale expectations? Bragging rights don’t pay the mechanic!

  • Price vs. real rivals and is there a community/club for mods, track days, and getting parts?

Short version: give me horsepower, weight, drivetrain/final-drive details, braking and suspension specs, gearbox type, tire/wheel setup, and cooling/engine oiling info, THEN I’ll decide if it’s a toy or an actual track-capable car.

Oh, and whether walking or driving whatever vehicle you own, please be aware of your surrounding to stay safe if travelling this Thanksgiving. Happy Turkey Day!

Nothing beats celebrating Thanksgiving in a flying bathtub in the Marvel universe (obviously).

So long as their local Fantasticar dealer won't shut up about the Black Friday sale they have going on the brand new shiny replacement model then we can proceed with Festivus, new whip for the first family! Haha. What a perfect and appropriate page to share for Thanksgiving season, let's hope everyone else's travels were even remotely smooth as this. That last panel is epic!

The Family and the Fantasti-Car give you exactly what you'd want out of a Super-Hero page, but man that night time New York cityscape gives you that great contrast of realistic with the fantastical! Outstanding!
