"Sail on!" it says, "sail on,ye stately ships!
And with your floating bridge the ocean span;
Be mine to guard this light from all eclipse,
Be yours to bring man nearer unto man!"
Good stuff right here.
Defenders books are some of the most fun team ups Marvel has to offer, very cool Larsen page! Silver Surfer image is top notch and the Strange is very nice too. Great pickup man!
Top panel would make for a great vacation postcard! Congrats!
Look at that gorgeous Silver Surfer panel, nice find!!
Great page!!
Makes the team look as dynamic as in the old days. Huge congrats!
Great, almost Simonson vibe to this page. Congrats!
Very cool Defenders page by the legend that is Larsen!
Congrats !
Long ago, for a page
Line was clear
Close your thighs
Defenders, is a page from long ago
Defenders, filled with Janson inks you know
Defenders, when you're glad you feel it now
Defenders, Surf around
Defenders, Hagg’s first in memory
Defenders, chose plot lines it is a key
Defenders, ink on all that life can be
Defenders
Dream, love is Larsen’s only dream
Defenders
Defenders, life is never as it reads, team
"Close your thighs", LOL! Forgot about that one for sec!
Thanks, man, and all, for the comments! Happy Holidays!
The top panel alone would get this into the Surfer Hall of Fame!
There's so much to love about this page. Looking forward to seeing it in person.
Some peak Larsen here when it appeared he was incorporating some Simonson influence!
Great panels especially that Surfer shot in the first panel. Congratulations on a beautiful Larsen
Janson's inks on Larsen looked great, and they are not two artists I ever would have thought to pair up!
Cool end page by Larsen and the Silver Surfer panel really stands out. Congrats.
Fun page- congrats!
Magnificent page! I'm so happy you got this!
You are right...it IS all about the Silver Surfer here! Excellent page!!!
Love a great Defenders page and that first panel with Surfer is just stunning. Congrats on a fantastic Erik Larsen page!
The Defenders? Where are Mandrake, Flash Gordon, the Phantom or Lothar?
Larsen bringing the old with the new to create fun and intriguing art for a great comic experience!
I don't know how but the Silver Surfer looks 3D, as if he's flying off the page, leaving the others behind. Great addition!!!!!!!!!!!!
Exactly, ND! Loved that about - it's like SS is leaving the scene and literally flying out of the panel/book doing it! Thanks for the add!
Great example from a somewhat misunderstood series. The Larsen - Janson collaboration produced some stunning images
Love that bold first panel
When you look at a fun & cleverly drawn page like this, it's just so clear that Erik Larsen had a blast drawing this book. That top image is fantastic with Surfer's head, hand & board all breaking panel, and that character on the left side of the last panel puts me in mind of his work on Savage Dragon. Great add!!
Totally agree, Paul! It really does feel like Erik had a blast doing this when you flip through the series and just look at the pages, especially those from the first couple issues. You have some sweet pages yourself, especially from issue 2. I'm glad to join the club :) Thanks for the add, man!
Hello, Larsen Surfer!
That top panel of Surfer is absolutely sublime!
I can never get enough of Janson's organic inks. Absolutely sublime! The Silver Surfer image may be the most three dimensional one ever drawn. Astonishing!
You're not kidding about Janson. He's got those wispy organic inks that just add life and energy to whatever he works on. I think of that quote from Rick Leonardi when I showed him a piece I owned where Dan Green inked over him (he hadn't seen before then as Rick pencils on one board and inks were done over blue line on another): “Really cool to see Dan’s inks like that! Fearless gestural inking, no sign he’s scared to let the brush be itself”.
Same vein!
Thanks for the add, Ruben!
Thanks for that Leonardi anecdote, KG, that's exactly what I mean whenever I see Janson's inks!
Klaus does a great job of inking Larsen here. The flow of the page also works very well, from tilted Surfer to Strange to a great half splash. Sincerely something to like in every panel. Nice one KG!
Great page. You had me with Surfer in the top panel!
You got to have at least one Larsen in your gallery and this is a nice one!
Obviosuly that fist panel is the star of the show. I love that second one too. I'll rock with the third as well, see a new detail each time you look at it.
But again, that Surfer is awesome. The perspective is cool, makes me want to turn my head to get a different angl!
Very cool -- especially that Surfer image! I really enjoyed Larsen's over the top style on this series!
Very beautiful page, with Erik's particular ability to cancel the logic of gravity :)
great congratulations Gearon
The Surfer and Doctor Strange panels are killer!!!! Such a great and beautiful page by this modern master!!! Huge congrats!!!
Class act Larsen rocked it!
Wow!!! I Love that first panel. Surfer is surfing out of the Page. Great Pick up.
That surfer panel is really amazing! I love how he did the surfboard with the "s" shaped shadows on it. Wonderful piece!
Nice page. The first panel with Surfer slightly breaking the panel border is really great.
Gorgeous Defenders page from Erik Larsen! That first panel is the real money shot here. What a fabulous full body drawing of the Silver Surfer! I even love that he's posed sideways, allowing Larsen to make him larger. But somehow, I also think the Surfer could ride his cosmic surfboard at any angle he chose to. He is, after all, a cosmic being. In the second panel, I like the way Doctor Strange's black collar frames his face. And at the bottom, I like the way the glowing crystal ball that shows Dr. Strange and Hellcat is eerie and cool. Fantastic pick-up, congrats!
Great page! That top Silver Surfer panel is cosmic perfection. This was a fun book when it came out.
Beautiful pièce by the masters - congrats !!!
