DescriptionA very special page and probably my last big pick up for 2024, capping off my first year of collecting. From the Spider-Island arc, this page includes the aftermath of Spider-man's fight with Tarantula, who was thrown into the Anti-venom cure for the spider-virus going around New York. Emerging from the anti-venom vat, Tarantula had been cured of his mutations and is revealed to be a fully revived Kaine, one of Peter Parker's clones and had previously been killed by Kraven's family. This page stuck out to me not only for being by Humberto Ramos, one of my favorite Spider-man artists, for having Spidey in multiple panels. But it also stuck out to me as this was not only also the last panel Eddie Brock had the Anti-Venom symbiote (the last remnants being on him in this page before it died from being extracted to make the cure for the virus), but also for reviving Kaine and the effects on him after this. Before, Kaine had long been a defective clone with issues that kept him from being a perfect clone of Peter Parker. However, this page is where he was permanently cure of all his cloning defects that have been his status quo since. After this was when Kaine would leave to take on the role of Scarlet Spider, where I grew to appreciate Kaine and Christopher Yost's amazing series with him. For me, this arc and page in particular are an important turning point for Kaine as a character and I am happy to have it in my collection! The Spider-Island arc itself also holds a special place for me, as this was the first spider-man event I was reading as it came out when I was a teen. So for me, the massive crossover between the marvel universe and spider-man related characters served as a great introduction into his current status in the comics at the time. I am very excited for this to be my first Humberto Ramos piece and I look forward to adding more. Thank you to Nikolaos for parting with it and working out a deal with me! Social/Sharing |

Ramos went all in with the animated Spidey eyes and kinetic figurework defined Spider-Man for over a decade. His storytelling is on display on this page having character defining moments.
