Who would win in a tortured soul battle, The Confessor or Spawn?
The Confessor storyline itself was a nod to 70's Marvel as it shifted into darker mystery type stories from the silver age. John Amor picks up on this to have a serious tone to all the atmospheric effects used in his illustration.

Ive loved Astro City for years, but the Confesser arc was something i only read within the last few. It lived up to its reputation, and this hero made an indelible impact on my perspective of comicsdom. Amor picked very very well.
