Description

Japanese horror manga as a genre is huge just like in film. One of the biggest names is Hideshi Hino who has a cartoony style that is misleadingly reassuring in its innocent style but the themes and images he uses can be quite unsettling, creepy and gory. He was also involved in the making of horror films and one was so realistic and notorious, Guinea Pig, which was a torture murder snuff film. The FBI investigated if it was a real murder and he had to recreate some of his scenes for the authorities to prove they were faked as they appeared so real. I have not seen the movie, it is not something I need to see but I do like his manga.

Hino is often too much for me but no one can dispute that he is indeed a master of the genre.
