Mike Hodgson - Sgt. Mike from “With Sgt. Mike”

The comic strip “With Sgt. Mike” was created by Sgt. Mike Hodgson, USMC. He served 12 months in Vietnam. The strip was published in periodicals as The Army, Navy, Air Force Times, The Saigon Press, Okinawa Morning Star and San Francisco Examiner.

A self taught artist, Mike Hodgson’s artistic talents would bring him into the animation field, where he had a long career working at such companies as Walt Disney Feature Animation, Hanna Barbara, Marvel, and The Jim Hensen Company. He would also win two Emmys. We’ll done, Sgt!

In his own words:
“While I drew the With Sgt Mike strip I must say that many of the Marines that I served with in Vietnam helped write it. For instance "Sledge" was a real guy.
I still have all of my original artwork from the strip.
I served with the 3rd Marine division, 4th Marines, and later with the 1st Marine Division at Chu Lai from 65' to 66'.”
