I've always been at least mildly interested in The Shadow from a visual standpoint, if nothing else. I learned a lot about the character's publication history in comics a few years ago from an article in Back Issue magazine. In that article I learned about the twelve issue series written by Denny O'Neil in the 70s, several issues of which had beautiful Mike Kaluta covers. As fate would have it, the owner of my comic shop got in the entire run several months later. I bought them and fawned over covers. I can't remember if I ever got around to actually reading them though (so that probably means no). And that's about as far as I got into "digging deeper" into The Shadow. Hopefully your joureny bears more fruit... but no weeds.
Colorado lawmakers would disagree ;)
Killer page!
great page when The Shadow is literally in shadow! Spiegle was/is still so underrated/underappreciated.
Spiegle Strikes! Wow, this page is intense. BAM!
Wow, I recently acquired a page from this series myself! This is a beauty! That first panel is exquisite. I love the storytelling, very much like I'm watching a crime show on television. Spiegle's work is masterful, but he hasn't gotten recognition by the masses in our hobby because he wasn't really a superhero artist. He certainly deserves more attention though!
I thought that guy was Crazy Quilt with that suit! Just like a slasher movie, the Shadow with the lighting from behind creates a fear inducing image. Spiegle also makes this story play out just like this is from the crime genre.
Congrats on getting this Shadow page, you pulled the trigger quicker than i did this. Nice Spiegle page.
This is superb--congrats!
