Kurjak smells suspicious to one of the monsters:

“So, dear guests, let's leave that which you have rightly called the zoo, or the seraglio that houses the disgusting creatures… and let's head to the apartments of the gentlemen and ladies of the night. Come closer. They don't bite, for now…”

“Beautiful lady, this necklace would look good on your white chest. Make me your offer, beautiful lady.”

“Better not to haggle too much. The Albanian Kukudhis can stand the sunlight. They are skilled merchants who demand to be paid in blood.”

“And who is this? A kind of Merlin-ish wizard? He seems to have come out of a fantasy book.”

“The Kudlak of Slovenia is a vampire-shaman. He prays to evil and acts for it: Only one creature can oppose him.”

“I smell him… I smell my enemy's odor! He is among you!”

“What does he want?”

“Aahh!”

“Among you is the companion of a Krsnik!”

“What the hell is he talking about?”

“Oddly enough, in Slovenia the Krsnik is the mortal enemy of the Kudlak... a man born to hunt vampires. The same creature that in other parts of the Balkans is known as Dampyr.”
