Happy Fred Saturday!

Since I posted a page from Marvel Feature #2 last night with Doctor Strange battling Dormammu, tonight I am posting TWO Fred Hembeck Doctor Strange cards

This one features Doctor Strange in his bald head & blue costume identity he assumed at the end of Doctor Strange #177 (1968) when Asmodius assumed his identity on Earth.

I've read that the other reason for the costume change was the flagging sales of the Doctor Strange title. They wanted to give him a more superhero look. The costume lasted from issue 177 to 183. When the Doctor popped up a year or so later in the Defenders and Marvel Premiere, he reverted back to his original Ditko designed outfit.

This version of Doc Strange would make for a great cereal mascot. Now what would the cereal be called, I wonder?! Dormamu bits? Ancient One's Flakes?..

What a treat! Fred doing the alternate Strange costume which didn't last long as you mention but still is so cool that they made that decision at the time. Even if they reverted fairly quickly, we now get to enjoy fun pieces like this as callbacks to it. sweet
