Time for more art. For the next few weeks I will posting the pieces from my Original Comic Art Unboxing with Ruben DaCollector in order.

First up is...this little gem from Don Newton.

Cover illo to the Nostalgia con booklet.
The 2nd Annual Chicago Comic & Nostalgia Convention. Pick-Congress Hotel Aug. 3-5 1973 Special guest were Walter Koenig and Russ Heath.

The Booklet itself is pretty small 8.5 X 5.5
The booklet contains an article titled Comics in the Classroom by Michael Uslan, Professor of History - Indiana University. Not much else, a couple of amateur comic strips and a list of membership with the only name I recognize being Denis Kitchen.

Don was a prolific contributor to comic fanzines. Between 1968 and 1973 Newton’s work appeared in over one hundred fanzines. This art is early Newton so the Batman isn't as refined as Newton's published Batman. Still, Newton manages to a moody Dark Knight with the use of his cape and spotlight depicting Batman as a creature of the night. Excellent use of Zip on Batman and the lettering.

Purchased Nov 2024 via eBay.

Uslan should also be a big recognizable name for his producer credits in Batman films. This is one Don Newton piece that can buck the trend and resell higher if you follow Ruben's advice!

That is some early Don Newton art. But not so far from becoming one of the great Batman artists.

Apart from Neal Adams, Don Newton is my favourite artis on Batman!!! Here we have an excellent example of his enormous talent!!!
