Jim Davis - Garfield Daily - 7/8/97

When Jim Davis announced he was selling most of his old strips I was really hoping to get one, and when I saw this one where Garfield is trying to make sparrow gumbo I knew it was the perfect piece for a Louisiana guy like me.

Jim's process (at least around this time, 1997) was to write the strip and sketch it out before his Paws Inc. staff created the finished product. I'm not certain but I believe Eric Reaves did the blueline pencils and lettering on this piece before being inked by Larry Fentz. After taking a closer look the signature looks to be done with a different pen than the rest of the lettering so I believe Jim Davis signs his name on originals.
