Description
Oddly out of place in my collection is this recently acquired piece by Jack Cole. For those of you unfamiliar with Jack's humor illustrations from the 1950's you may be more familiar with his creations:
Millie & Terry
Betsy and me
or most importantly in my mind -- Plastic Man!

I've been on the lookout for YEARS to acquire a piece of Jack Cole art. I have never seen a Plastic Man page but there are several pin-ups like this floating around a few dealers and collector rooms.

This good-girl art wasn't too over the top and I do appreciate the subtle line for the women's hair. I'm also an avid bowler (in a former life) so I found the humor very apropos.

Still on the lookout for Plastic Man art but am happy to finally own a piece by the creator of Plas.

Jack Cole (as Jake) Joker June-1955 Single Panel Gag Cartoon Illustration Original Art (Humorama, 1955).
"They must like him very much - They keep putting kisses after his name!"
Bowling as a spectator sport.

The gag was reprinted in the February-1963 Instant Laughs, the November-1967 Zip, and the September-1972 Fun House Comedy.
The art also appears on Page 71 of The Classics Pin-Up Art of Jack Cole (Fantagraphics Books, 2004).
Ink with ink wash cover graphite on illustration board. Signed by Jack Cole as "Jake."

You know it's a bad date when your lady just sits there confused while you play with your own balls.

awesome vintage Cole piece! to have that mix of bowling and good girl art (but not too over the top) makes this one particularly appealing. hope you find your Plastic-Man by Cole eventually
