It's no secret I've loved Jack Sparling's art since I started collecting back around 1991 or so. Here's to you Jack, as versatile as they get and vastly underappreciated.

Jack Sparling John Wayne Adventure Comics #26 Story Page 5 Original Art (Toby, 1950). A hardy relic reflecting John Wayne's early days as a B-movie action star, John Wayne Adventure Comics ran apace with the actor's larger career as a major studio leading man. At the time this funny book pirate yarn appeared, Wayne was starring in The High and the Mighty for Warner Bros. The page comes from a story called "Not So Jolly, Roger," which pits Wayne against a leftover Axis war criminal and a mob of high-seas hijackers. Comics veteran Sparling captures well the roughhousing energy of John Wayne. The ink over graphite on Bristol board, with an image area of 12" x 18". Toned, with editorial markings and minor edge wear. Very Good condition.
