DescriptionThis was an awesome pickup from the OAX auction. This piece was outside my normal wheelhouse, but just seeing it in person at the auction made me want to bid on it.The funny thing though was I saw how large it was and the fact that it looked beautifully painted, but had not been tracking who or what it was from. I originally saw a shield and was guessing Captain America was in it with Iron Man, so made a spontaneous bid sight unseen due to my angle in the room. However, depicted is Ironheart and The Mighty Avengers, which both of them being characters I am not very familiar with. At first this made me a little disappointed as I was hoping to land a few of the avengers characters in a painted piece. I then decided to read the issue and learned a bit more. Not only am I happy about the win, I am quite excited to get the piece framed on my wall. This is something I wouldn’t normally have gone for, but I feel it was bought for a purpose. Additionally, it is my understanding that Ironheart will be ending phase 5 of the MCU, so how could I not be excited. As most of my art is Guardians of the Galaxy related, I noticed that my walls don’t have enough diversity in the imagery. Although not done purposefully, I am happy to add this piece not only as it has a strong black lead, but also for the fact that there is a heroine as the main focus of the piece. While at OAX I had the opportunity to listen in on some of the interviews being done around the “Collections in Black” gallery that was being displayed at the show. The conversations I was listening to were uplifting and educational. Also having the ability to see some of the pieces in the collection in person was absolutely inspirational. This piece being a good reminder for my own walls of the importance of diversity in comics. Additionally, as I am raising three young girls to be strong independent women, I find importance in having imagery of women in lead roles visible for them as well. In regard to the artistry, I have nothing but high praise to be spoken for Marco Rudy’s artwork. I was unfamiliar with his work prior to OAX, but post OAX, he is high on my radar of artists after seeing the amazing pieces he has created. This issue fits perfect within my wheelhouse as it has a sci-fi flare with time travel and incredible world design. This piece was labeled as 22"x17". Watercolor and acrylic on 300g watercolor paper. Go on and buy, you won't change my mind
Your paints on Marvel Marco Rudy
I gave art my love, but bid was not enough
It was just yours since for girls from daddy
So don't hand me no hard luck Riri
Hopin' I'll just fall apart
At Miller's you're the one who parties
Art drawin' with this best Iron Heart

really fantastic DPS, as far as the published works that were offered during the OAX auction I thought this was right up there with the best of them. Unexpected but really awesome, you should share how you end up framing it later too. congrats!

Already went into framing early this morning. Another great one for the walls. Will share once it is all framed up. Hopefully, I caught the essence of the piece and as per usual a little bit of flare.

It sounds like you made an incredible and thoughtful purchase at the OAX auction, Ian! It's always fun when you pick up something unexpected and then end up finding deeper connections to it. From your description, it seems like you’ve not only gained a fantastic piece of art but also a greater appreciation for the characters and themes that were originally outside your wheelhouse.
It's always nice to have those surprise moments where you’re introduced to new heroes, and now the piece has a unique place in your collection. The diversity angle also resonates strongly, especially since you’re mindful of how it reflects your personal values. Having powerful, diverse heroines like Ironheart on your wall will certainly make an impact on those who see it, particularly your daughters, assuming you teach them about these characters.
Marco Rudy’s artwork is stunning, too, and it's great to hear that this auction experience opened the door for you to discover his work. It’s always nice when a purchase feels like it has more meaning beyond just adding it to your collection. Congrats!
