DescriptionLatest Golden Age Team-Up Project commission - The Brave & The Bold issue #257, teaming Batman with Ibis The Invincible, adapted by Bambos Georgiou from Geof Isherwood's cover to Doctor Strange #40.1947 - and Bruce Wayne travels to Fawcett City to see an exhibition of Egyptian antiquities on dispaly at the Fawcett City Museum, little aware that one of the exhibits is the target of not one, not two, but three separate super-villains! The sorceror Wotan believes that a recently-recovered relic is in fact a magical artefact, which he plans to steal to enhance his own mystic powers; Alexander The Great (who battled Hawkman in Flash Comics #2, and later appeared in All-Star Squadron Annual #3) thinks the find is a part of an alien spacecraft which crashed in ancient Egypt, and intends to use it to expand his super-scientific arsenal; and the Shade simply intends to take possession of the exhibit for personal gain, selling it to the highest bidder! After touring the museum, Wayne relaxes for the evening in Fawcett City, taking in a show - but his evening is disrupted by the sudden appearance of Ibis The Invincible, who uses his Ibistick to freeze all the other attendees and asks Wayne to accompany him, revealing in the process that he's aware of the Gotham playboy's secret identity as Batman! Although shocked, Batman agrees to lend Ibis a hand, but before he can change into his costume, a guesture with the Ibistick transforms Wayne's suit into his heroic garb, The two heroes depart at a run, and Ibis tells Batman that the museum is being robbed, and that all of their talents will be needed in order to stop the alliance of villains who are carrying out the theft. As they arrive, they find the three evil-doers squabbling about which of them should be the one to steal - and keep - the Egyptian relic --- and Batman offers to solve the problem by suggesting that none of them should so, and the artefact should remain the property of the museum! The three villains instantly stop their arguing and join forces to attack Batman, who dodges a magical bolt thrown by Wotan only to find himself inside a cloud of darkness cast by the Shade. Donning a pair of night-vision goggles, Batman finds his way into the light, to see Ibis in a mystic duel with Wotan, and at the last minute the Gotham Guardian is able to use his batarang to disarm Alexander The Great, who was about to use his gravity weapon to attack Ibis, Batman then turns his attention back to the Shade, throwing a gas-bomb from his utility belt which catches the villain in a cloud of anaesthetic gas, leaving the villain choking and on the verge of unconsciousness. Ibis uses the Ibistick to hurl Alexander the Great away from the relic he's trying to purloin - but Alexander retrieves his gravity weapon and catches Batman in the beam, increasing his weight and pinning the Gotham Guardian down! As Ibis attempts to use the Ibistick to free Batman, he's caught in a crossfire of Alexander's gravity beam and Wotan's magical bolts, and is on the verge of collapse --- only for the recovering Shade to turn on his two fellow criminals, using his cloud of darkness to blind both of them while the Shade seizes the Egyptian relic! Both heroes, freed from the assaults which had stopped them in their tracks, concentrate their attack on the Shade, and after Batman's right hook knocks the villain flying, the Ibistick paralyses him. Ibis then turns his attention to Wotan, who is similarly frozen by the power of the Ibistick, while Batman chases after the now-weaponless Alexander The Great, who has snatched up the artefact and is trying to find a way to access whatever powers it may have to use against his pursuer, but before he can make any headway Batman tackles him, knocking him to the floor, and snapping on a pair of handcuffs which immobilise Hawkman's vintage foe! With the three villains in custody, Batman retrieves the relic and returns it to the case from which it had been taken - and while the heroes wait for the arrival of the Fawcett City police, Ibis lets Batman know that the artefact is neither magical nor extraterrestrial in origin, but is simply a piece of ancient art, so two of the three criminals were wasting their time in attempting to steal it. Batman is quick to correct Ibis; the Shade, too, was wasting his time in trying to carry out the robbery while heroes such as the pair of them are able to stop them!
