Description
Rare to have acquired a key page from one of my favorite SSOC issues. It provides us a scenic view of a fortress surrounded by majestic mountains and forests.

I was fortunate to have acquired this lovely page from Comic Connect (my first win) less than 24 hours after the end of the auction. Though one has to overcome the sticker shock from the buyer’s premium added to New York taxes, which can add to the bottom line. At least, I was able to get a nice tour of the Comic Connect office (a few blocks from the Hudson Yards AB office) courtesy of the lovely folks at Comic Connect — Micah and Vincent.

Nice illustrated and very moody with the added staining done in a painted manner.  The crest and banner for the title and credits make it look like a classics illustrated literary story.

Kwapisz went off on this one. Just look at that insane detail all over the page! The way Conan is posed, standing against that twisted, gnarled terrain, it’s like you can feel the tension in his stance. And that looming castle in the background, where he'll undoubtedly encounter a sexy woman who is actually a witch or a scary old hag, is very eerie.

The title design is great, too. Those skulls, the sharp edges, the ominous Three Deaths of Conan lettering, it’s like something off a classic heavy metal album cover! Love it!

Totally killer title page for Savage Sword of Conan by Gary Kwapisz! Love this scene of Conan on a cliff overlooking a valley of mist-shrouded hills and a lone black castle rising out of the mist. I take it that this is a young Conan, not yet the muscle-bound hero he becomes, but a younger, leaner and possibly more anxious warrior. Certainly by his pose he looks uncertain, as he's drawn his sword for protection though no monster or villain has yet appeared. It's a wonderful opening scene for what is certain to be a monster/sorceror story that will test his young courage and his skill with a sword. Great pick-up, congrats!
