There's nothing cooler than a skull character when drawn bu JB and inked by Ernie Chan. Most inkers would just get the shape in, but Chan adds so much more sinister intent in the shadows and textures.

Holy cow! What an outstanding page. Buscema is good but Chan on top just makes all Conan olympic level genius. Comics are better than the best. Be good to each other

I think the two headshots in the middle are the defining panels here. If you take those out, I'm not sure you would even be able to tell this was a Buscema page. But one look at those two faces and you recognize immediately that this is JB inked by Ernie. The marriage of styles is unmistakable. Chan was Buscema's longest tenured inker on Conan. It gave such a wonderful consistency to their work on the character (whether it was the comic or the magazine). As such, in the rare instances of a guest inker, even without looking at the credits, you could tell right away something was different. Even when you factor in John's great runs with Sinnott on FF and Palmer on Avengers, no one in his career inked him more than Ernie. Truly one of the greatest art teams of all time.
