Continuing with more art from my Original Comic Art Unboxing with Ruben DaCollector.

Everyone knows my favorite characters are Jonah Hex, The Question and Green Arrow but did you know that my favorite super-hero group is Infinity Inc! That's right
the members of Infinity, Inc. the sons, daughters and proteges of the Justice Society of America.

It all started in 1984. I had just started regularly visiting my local comic shop, Comic Heaven, looking for the latest issue of G.I. Joe. There on the wall of the previous week's books I saw this cool looking cover. A bunch of colorful figures looking at a wanted poster with members of the JSA on it. I opened the book and flipped through it, casually reading some of the story. It looked cool but I passed on it because I was only interested in my G.I.Joe book.

A month later I was back in the shop for the latest issue of G.I.Joe and again I was looking at the wall of books. This time, a bright yellow cover caught my eye, it had a furious Superman (with grey temples) with both arms raised over his head ready to hammer down on his victim, which in this case was a female hero. The tag line was something like there's only two Kryptonians on earth and that's one too many for Superman! Holy shit! I was sold. I glanced through the book and said yep I'm buying it.

As I was pulling the book, I looked behind the latest issue and I saw the JSA wanted poster cover from my previous visit. Holy cow! Without realizing it, I was looking at the same title I had looked at before. I was definitely buying it now and all the back issues I could get (with Dads approval of course). It introduced me to the world of superheros. My first superhero book and introduction to the DC Universe. Every book I read after that was because of Infinity Inc.

The title will always be one of my favorites. Glad to have been able to buy this Mike Machlan recreation from Stuart Neft this past CAF live event. The original, last I saw it was with Dave Mandel and probably out of my price range.

Although it's more cartoony than straightforward 'comic booky', I think Machlan nailed the essence of the original cover while giving it a clean, polished look. I love how each character still holds their distinct energy. Nuklon’s imposing stance, Power Girl’s confidence, and the whole team just radiating a ‘we're the next generation’ vibe. The line work is so clean, it’s like stepping right back into 1984 when I first saw the 1st issue hit the stand at my LCS. Fun piece!

A comic store direct market exclusive! The better paper also made it even more rare and mysterious to friends who would have never seen these more expensive comics. It was something that gave DC a leg up on Marvel early on.
