Dawnstar by Jeff Moy

Yet another eBay win! A seller was listing dozens of Dawnstar pieces for sale, and I was browsing through looking for a good deal when this one (unsurprisingly) caught my eye. This is from super early in Jeff's career, too - 1994 was his first year working in the industry! Another way to tell that this is an early piece is by the signature, which Jeff would eventually swap out for the one he still uses today, and from the layout, done in light blue pencil. Jeff would continue to do most of the layouts for his published pages in blue pencil, but from what I've seen it wasn't something he kept doing for his con sketches.

And just look at all the detail poured into this one! The feathers, the hair, every single tassel - just incredible. I love how much movement the tassels give to the piece, making the pose so much more dynamic. It's also fun to see that even though Jeff's work was so closely linked to the Legionnaires title and the Reboot Legion, fans still wanted to see older Legionnaire designs (like Dawny, here) in his style.
