At the dawn of cataclysmic world ending genre in movies and fiction! It's when the cold war and the space race causing anxieties to be at an all time high. Maybe it's done to let out a cathartic release for all those fears to play out and serve warning to mankind.

wow, great image and for a 60 year old piece it feels more relevant today than ever. hopefully humanity gets it's act together before the actual Empire State Building is under water some day.
