DescriptionLatest Golden Age Team-Up Project commission - The Brave & The Bold issue #260, teaming Batman with Manhunter (the Paul Kirk version), adapted by Bambos Georgiou from John Romita Jr and Al Milgrom's cover to Amazing Spider-Man #215.Spring 1945 - and while preparations continue for the rally to raise money for children orphaned in the war, Batman visits the Perisphere to pass on the news about Kamikaze's attempt to steal classified technology to his fellow All-Stars, and his concerns that this might be just the start of a wider plot by Axis Amerika. After asking the other heroes who are present to keep their eyes open, Batman then attends a photocall with some of the younger heroes - Dan The Dyna-Mite, Speedy, Sandy and others - since Robin is unable to be present, as a result of imminent school examinations. After the photographers have departed, Manhunter catches up with Batman and lets him know that his own investigations have suggested that Axis Amerika members Ubermensch and Horned Owl are in the city and may be planning something - and the two heroes set off to see what more they can uncover. After a fruitless night tracking leads which fail to pan out, though, both agree to meet again the following evening if any more evidence comes to light. Before the two heroes can continue their investigation, however, a Liberty Ship is sunk in New York Harbour, and Manhunter is at the scene to see whether it was the result of Axis sabotage. Concluding from the damage caused that not only Ubermensch but also Sea Wolf may have been involved in the sinking of the ship - and the loss of supplies being sent across the Atlantic - he again joins forces with Batman as the two redouble their efforts to track down the Axis villains. A clue discovered by Batman in the sabotaged ship's loading register leads the two heroes to a dockside warehouse, where more suppies vital to the war effort in Europe are being stored prior to being despatched, and their observations from atop the warehouse roof reveal three Axis Amerika members - Ubermensch, Horned Owl, and Sea Wolf! Smashing through the skylight, the two heroes launch a swift attack on the villains, and are successful at first in stunning both Batman's counterpart and the aquatic werewolf - but when Ubermensch gets involved in the fray, the tables are quickly turned, and the super-powered Nazi is able to knock both heroes for six, allowing Horned Owl and Sea Wolf to complete their capture. Axis Amerika then activate a radio receiver and contact their masters in Germany, looking for instructions as to what to do with the captive Squadron members. Feigning unconsciousness, Batman overhears discussion of Axis Amerika's plans, and a planned attack on the upcoming fundraising rally. Incensed that the villains might stoop so low as to strike at an event where not only the younger heroes and kid sidekicks will be present, but also an expected audience of thousands of war orphans, Batman redoubles his efforts to escape from his bonds - and both he and Manhunter are able to use their talents to break free! With the three villains devoting their attention to the conversation with Berlin, they are unaware of Batman and Manhunter's escape, and are caught by surprise when the heroes again spring an attack on them, concentrating their blows on Ubermensch and trying to take him out of the fight as early as possible. Just as they seem to be gaining the upper hand, however, a fourth member of the Axis team appears - and Kamikaze's entry into the fight tips the balance of the battle! As the heroes struggle, Horned Owl snatches up an advanced weapon and blasts both Batman and Manhunter, enveloping them in an electrical field which paralyses them! Pausing only to announce that the field will imprison them and allow Axis Amerika to depart, the villains leave - and both Batman and Manhunter know that if they can't escape, the consequences could be dire. Manhunter strains himself to the limit, but is unable to escape from the electrical field, so Batman tries a desparate strategem - using a gadget from his utility belt to try and short-circuit the trap. A massive surge of power dispels the field, and Manhunter is freed - only to find that Batman has collapsed to the floor, and Manhunter can detect no hearbeat! Is this the end of Batman? Find out - in THe Brave & The Bold Annual #5, coming soon! Social/Sharing |

Really cool! You can go one for one in characters on this layout and still retain all the drama!
