DescriptionPublished 1991Ian Miller is a British fantasy illustrator and writer best known for his book and magazine cover and interior illustrations, including covers for books by H. P. Lovecraft and contributions to David Day's Tolkien-inspired compendiums, work for Fighting Fantasy gamebooks and various role-playing and wargaming publications, as well as contributions to the Ralph Bakshi films Wizards and Cool World. Miller provided paintings for the covers to Swamp Thing 104-109. Miller has said: "My images are the stuff of dreams and apparitions, the tremors that touch the skirt of day. Unspoken thoughts, stored memories, drawn up to be aired and then twisted by fancy." Social/Sharing |

Ian's dragon bound for comics
It's on CAF with a pencil line.
High above him Elementals,
Winging swiftly through the sky.
Now the inks on Swamp Thing,
They laugh with all their might.
Laugh Lovecraft the whole Day through,
and half the Miller's night.

Whoaaa! What an chilling prelim by Ian Miller for a Swamp Thing cover. Miller dreamed up a truly frightening beastie here, a fearsome dragon that would give the bravest nightmares. This dragon is decidedly evil in its appearance, the long jaw and the sharp teeth giving away its evil intent I love the way the flames of his breath seem to become sceaming ghosts as they fly out into the night. Even the landscape seems to be formed out of the twisted bodies of the beastie's victims. Fantastic pick-up, congrats!
