Description
X-Men #107 was the first comic I ever bought for myself and although I wasn't fully sure what was happening, I became an instant Dave Cockrum fan and especially loved the Starjammers and Imperial Guard.

I was fortunate to be able to buy the first Starjammers splash from that issue in 2002 and a few years later I was also able to pickup this first appearance page of Corsair and Ch'od (and his pet Cr'reee) from X-Men #104. This is also a very early appearance of Lilandra and really the first time you can clearly see her face.

What's funny now is that I bought this off eBay in 2007 and was the only bidder, probably because this was seen as a "boring" overpriced epilogue page that came at the end of a great Magneto story and this was before "birth pages" were a thing. Regardless, I was thrilled to be able to buy this and I'm finally sharing it on CAF.

There's a great Corsair Character Design on the back, which I've posted separately in my gallery. As you can see in that drawing, Corsair originally had a cape, and it was whited out and changed on the art before publication. Corsair's costume was originally colored yellow in this issue, but then updated to a more flattering red in subsequent appearances.

Ha yeah -- I bought several of my best pieces from eBay (including a Kirby FF and Wrightson Frankenstein) and often I was the only bidder.  Good times!

Thanks - I also love Sam Grainger's inking over Cockrum!

These isues after Phoenix continued to expand the X-Men's adventures into the cosmos.  Claremont definitey had a plan for all of it using Cockrum's skills of design for the swashbuckling space pirate Corsair and the many alien species that would play a big part in the stories going forward.

What a great page! It has classic Bronze Age swashbuckling-imbued costuming, alien designs, space adventuring, and family drama all on one page. Also, it is a fine example of why I think Granger was one of Cockrum's best inkers.

You're exactly right, Ted. Even by 2007, most collectors still didn't really care for pages without main characters in costume. It's only in later years as the hobby grew substantially and far more open minded collectors entered the hobby that pages like this one finally began getting some respect, thought still not because of the first appearance obsession.

Awesome Cockrum page from a very memorable issue and storyline.  I started with #100 and #101.  The third issue I picked up was this one and I was totally bought into all of the goings on.....without really understanding them.

Cockrum's beautiful artwork on an Uber-classic page that just SCREAMS Marvel Bronze-Age magic.  The Corsair design on the back immediately doubles the value for me.
