Description
This is the alternate Original Cover Art for The Official Marvel Index to the Fantastic Four #8, published by Marvel Comics in July 1986. This was drawn in pencils by Tom Lyle. The published cover was done by a different Tom (Tom Morgan), and we have shown pictures of the published comic (for reference only, not included) so you can see just how similar the piece is to the final published cover. Tom Lyle is credited with the published cover to the next issue (#9), and no artist did the cover for consecutive issues in the series, so it seems that they wanted him for the cover of issue #9, and/or there was an issue with deadlines. It is done on 2 full-size art boards which have been taped together down the middle on the back side, so the full-size of this amazing double-page wraparound cover spread is a huge 21" by 17"! The front (right) side of the cover shows the FF (along with Medusa in the Fastasti-Car) battling the Dragon Man. The back (left) side of the cover features Crystal, Quicksilver, and Lockjaw of the Inhumans facing Johnny Storm, The Human Torch at the top, and Reed Richards, Sue Storm, and Franklin on the lower half. The late, great Tom Lyle was a beloved artist, well-known for great work on Starman and Robin for DC Comics, and Spiderman at Marvel, and this is probably one of the most incredible pieces you could hope to get by him. This is a truly spectacular piece, which would look amazing framed and prominently displayed, and would be an outstanding addition to any collection.
