Description
I think Steven Butler was just the right artist to create this beautiful and detailed commission.
I've always wanted to know what the fleeing criminals saw when they looked back.
Mr. Butler wrote: "Here’s a commission drawing I did yesterday, recreating a scene from the Prince Valiant comic strip from 1937- In this sequence, Prince Valiant disguised himself as a demon from the nether realm by killing a goose and wearing it’s skin, feather tips and feet in a grotesque mask- there’s a panel where the disguised Val is seen from behind perched on top of a tower, and my client asked me to recreate that scene, except from the front view. I had a lot of fun with this, especially knowing that this comic strip influenced so many of the comic greats whose work I grew up loving as a kid. Jack Kirby created his Etrigan The Demon character for DC Comics based on his memories from reading this Prince Valiant sequence from 1937.
I really, REALLY enjoy doing commissions like this one!"
And I am now really, REALLY happy that this work of art hangs on my wall.

It's fantastic and you can see so much of what Kirby derived from Foster.  Butler touches upon the history and also the emotion behind the look.
