Description
Spider Jerusalem has come down from the mountain to begin reporting again. In this page, he answers the door in the nude, bowel disruptor in hand, to meet his new assistant, Channon. She is not amused by any of this.

Transmet, as it's known in cool-kid circles, is the standout series from DCs short-lived Helix line of comics from the late 90s. A modern classic that now falls under the also defunct Vertigo line. At least the Vertigo logo appears on the Absolute Editions that I purchased a few years back...

This page is pure fun. Spider's angst and nudity, his many tattoos, and his attitude toward his new assistant all encapsulate who he is as a character in this early point in the series. Roberton's clean lines coupled with Demulder's tight inks give us a good look at Spidery's phsyique as well as a bit of his apartment. What really sells the fun of this page is facial expressions. Spider's over-the-top glee at disrupting the bowels of whoever his unwanted guest may turn out to be, and the clear surprise, which quickly becomes displeasure, on Channon's face tell the whole story.

11x17 pencils and inks on DC board.

Kind of has a Brian Bolland creepiness to it.

A phrase I need to work into daily life, more.

This series was a real head turner back in the day!  We didn't know why it needed to be a new pocket imprint title as they already had Vertigo in place.  That is until we read it and saw how different a direction in tone and attitude they wanted in sci-fi compared to the fantasy titles of the day.

"Helix"? I never readthis book but I don't remember that imprint at all. I thought this was a Vertigo book!

Pretty impressive how he can stroll around his house talking while keeping that lit cigarette going/smoking just with his teeth/mouth no hands style! I def missed this non-Vertigo Vertigo title but the art looks pretty cool!
