Description
Lan Medina was, of course, one of the key artists on Fables. I must confess that I am not a Fables fan but I could not pass up this piece for at least a couple of reasons.

First, it is - artistically speaking - simply beautiful. It isn't easy to do a colored piece as well but this was so well done, perhaps because Lan was also so familiar with the subject matter. The overall atmospheric is also brilliant, in my view. This is one of the few pieces which simply attracted me from an artistic point of view.

Secondly (and equally importantly), it was for a more than worthy cause as the proceeds would go towards helping Kim Jacinto's family. At this point, I would like to deviate somewhat and say something further.

I have often mentioned how I admire how much Jiggy goes above and beyond the call of duty to help all his artists - even though some would ultimately leave, often for different assignments. Yet, Jiggy's heart is large enough to ensure he does his utmost, notwithstanding. And this is reflected in his stable of artists as well. When Kim's family faced a sudden and painful emergency, the family which Jiggy created came together, contributing pieces such as this in order to assist the family.

Jiggy's artists are immensely talented. They also have heart (which isn't all that common nowadays, I'm afraid). I am sure that we all hope that they will break into the very top of mainstream comics and, when they in fact do, they will have much to thank Jiggy for. In the meantime, many of us try to support their endeavours even as they bless us with their superb artwork.

If you weren't a Fables fan before hopefully this piece helps make you one because it is such a great series/read filled with awesome characters, dialogue, storytelling...and of course, art! Beautiful illustration of the two core characters who make up the heart of the story. Good on you for adding a piece inspired by source material you were not an expert on so the funds would go to a good cause. Jiggy and his artists create a real friends and family environment within their group and with their fellow fans and collectors whether it be at shows or just in the manner which they interact online as well. Kudos to all!

This is lovely.  Whether deliberate or unintentional, the night sky in the background makes me think of van Gogh.

Many thanks, Eric. There was a similar comment by someone else during the sales show itself.

So unique with the lantern festival mainly in Asian culture brought to Fables.  They symbolize luck, health, and prosperity that Lan wanted to send to Kim Jacinto's family.

Many thanks, Marcus. That's a very interesting (and appropriate) take indeed, although East also meets West with Big Ben in the background.

This is indeed a very beautiful piece, both in drawing and in terms of coloring. There is no doubt that the background was inspired by Van Gogh's work, and Medina did it intentionally. So great!

I remember seeing this image in the preview email and thinking it must be Snow and Bigby from Fables given it was by Lan Medina.  The colors on this are great as well, giving it that painterly look and feel.  I wasn't able to make the livestream, but congrats on the pickup!
