Artwork Details

DescriptionEisner Award winning writer and artist, Tillie Walden, is well-known for her graphic novels dealing with life and relationships. This is, I believe, one of her rare forays into the comic art world. She wrote and drew this story for the anthology, Wonder Woman Black and Gold (in celebration of Wonder Woman's 80th Anniversary). The story is entitled "Homecoming" and, in spite of the absence of text, it is self-explanatory. It is very well drawn and the detail is amazingly evocative (in part, because it was drawn in a slightly different (smaller) format which facilitated more intricate detail). Again, although I love and grew up with Silver Age artwork, I have found that stretching my horizons allows me to enjoy this hobby even more. This is page 8 (the final page) of the story. Really enjoyed the innovative panel/page design and imagery throughout the 8 pages. The only word bubbles in the entire story being "Diana" and "Mom" really brought a lot more importance to those scenes/lines with emotional weight. Over it's a nice self contained Wonder Woman story from a modern book with a unique art style. A cool way of expanding collecting horizons!

Many thanks, Kavi, for taking the time and trouble to go through the story and (as always) for your very perceptive observations. I am indeed very glad to expand my collecting horizons while still loving what is nostalgic for me as well. It is not "either-or" but "and".

Nice finale. The parent and child bond remains strong across distance and time! In this way, we can all relate to Wonder Woman.

Gorgeous art by Tillie Walden for the anthology "Wonder Woman Black and Gold." Tillie's art isn't the usual style of a Wonder Woman book, but it does give us a woman's perspective on the character of Diana Prince. I find her approach interesting and would love to see more of it. Great pick-up, congrats!

Many thanks, Bill. It is extremely interesting indeed to see Tillie's style translated to the superhero genre.
