Description
Adding to the sandman collection! The Sandman is from #6 (1989) by Mike Dringenberg & Malcom Jones III The first issue in which Mike Dringenberg provided pencils after previously inking Sam Kieth's pencils. Malcolm Jones III provided inks. Using the ruby known as the Dreamstone that he stole from Dream of the Endless, the villain Doctor Destiny unleashes dark terror on a group of people in a small-town diner. On this page we see the dreams that three of the customers in the diner are having thanks to Doctor Destiny's manipulations. Doctor Destiny is John Dee, a character introduced way back in Justice League of America #5 (1961).

John Dee took things to the extreme in the diner causing mental mayhem! A great page from this early issue and first for Dringenberg on peciliing duties. congrats!

Gaiman was pretty intent on linking the title to past DC lore and made it impossible for it to be dismissed or ignored.  Dringenberg made some great choices with the fragmented framing elements around the nightmarish tale.  It's a self contained piece of horror storytelling that the wife would approve of.

Every panel feels like a different artist drew it. Very nice pick up!

Loved Mike's work on the book.  Out of curiosity, were there any doodles on the back of the page?  The death of Corinthian page from Doll's House I used to own had little "story" Mike and Jones drew... and always wonder if they did that on other pages the worked on.  Anyhow, congrats and thanks for sharing!
