Skeleton Warriors from Jason and the Argonauts by Ben Stenbeck

This was sort of an impulse buy. When I saw that Ben Stenbeck had done this tribute to Jason and the Argonauts I knew I had to jump on it. This classic fantasy film was a cinematic retelling of the Greek myth of Jason and his quest to find the Golden Fleece that featured extensive stop motion animation by famed visual effects legend Ray Harryhausen.

Often regarded by many fans and critics to be Ray’s finest work. It’s one of the few films to come out of Hollywood that actually captures the feel of classic Greek Mythology by featuring the Gods of Olympics and mythical monsters.

Ben really did a stellar job on these three skeleton warriors who appeared in the climatic fight scene near the finale and was probably Ray’s grand opus. Ray had to animate all seven skeletons individually and the sequence took him over three months to complete. Over sixty years later it still one of the most impressive pieces of stop-motion animation ever created.
