Description
Published May 23, 1968.

Part of "A Switch in Time…" story arc that ran from May 6, 1968 to June 29, 1968

Hazard slips into disguise as his team touches down in Formosa, gearing up for a covert rendezvous with shady trader T.J. Steele.

Johnny Hazard started as an Army Air Corps pilot and was a Cold War spy for most of the strip's 1944-1977 run.

This vintage Cold War piece has Johnny Hazard arriving in Formosa--now called Taiwan--on a B-52 "under the watchful 'eyes' of big-brother Mao."

Nice overhead shot of the flying fortress.  Robbins was in his element with this strip that combined intrigue and espionage in a world of international tensions.

Thanks, Kavi. I also like the last panel. Well rendered and laid out panel juxtaposing the modern and ancient.

Like certain other illustrators, Frank Robbins did not care for the superhero genre nor did his style fit it well, hence why his work on Invaders and almost anything else he did is loathed by so many comic book fans. But looking at his Johnny Hazard strip immediately shows that he was an excellent artist. This is a very nice example and the bookend panels are terrific.

I appreciate early Frank Robbins work. Shows his tremendous talent which as Ruben stated earlier is lost in his attempts at Captain America years later. Franks style was perfect for this strip. The villains name made me immediately think of the famous Indiana painter T.C. Steele. Imagine its just a coincidence. Thanks for posting this here Peter!

Great strip Peter! I feel like Robbins handled the transition to a post-war strip better than most and he really took Johnny all over the globe and got into all sorts of weird situations as a spy for W.I.N.G. Really fun stuff to read in reprints!
