Just the event itself had everyone talking. Even at the comic store, these short backup stories had people more interested than the main team up.
This short story was built on moments. What could have been moments. It was a train full of fan service.
100%! All stories are imaginary stories (I get it), but it was the approach vector taken by this particular backup tale that made it the very best kind of 'Elseworlds' or 'What If...?' tale: a _true_ one. This one went deep and intertwined core principles of two beloved characters, showing us "completely obvious" story beats that we had never considered before. It fed our geeky cores and broke our geeky hearts because these beautifully composed and executed panels were -a- true (but not -THE- true) recounting of the tales; a masterful leveraging of the audience's love of not only the characters, but some central stories that defined their essences. In the past we've had Superman and Cap linked (for their moral integrity) and Batman and Cap linked (due to their battle savvy and strategic acumen), but Chip, Terry, and Rachel give us maybe the truest combination here - a "one-stop" that encompasses both of those things (and what feels like more: potential). This was a backup story that really moved me, and to have a beautiful page from it is truly special! HUGE congrats, Jul-Kha!
Yup that was THE story in the book
