Chapter #2 from KOF '95

Yūji Hosoi (1950-) is a veteran Japanese mangaka renowned for adapting tokusatsu, anime, and video game properties into accessible manga over four decades. During his student years, he joined the doujin group Mutant Pro. He made his professional debut in Tezuka's COM magazine in 1968, then became assistant to Jōji Enami, learning the craft of adapting TV series. In 1971, he joined Ishimori Productions, absorbing anime and tokusatsu adaptation techniques.
His breakthrough came in 1972 when he was selected to create the manga adaptation of Kamen Rider, a major TV phenomenon. This launched his long career in "mangaisation," faithfully translating popular media into manga form.

From the 1970s through the 2000s, Hosoi became a fixture in manga, helping generations engage with franchises like Kamen Rider, Super Sentai, and SD Gundam. His work extended the life of TV series that children could only watch once, giving them lasting presence in manga that could be read repeatedly. Though largely unknown to the general public outside Japan, he's deeply respected by collectors and tokusatsu fans. Recently, his original artwork has surfaced in international auctions. At nearly 75, he still serves part-time as head of Kyoto University's Manga Department.
