Frisco Hayride!

Tell it to the Marines featured stories of the humorous adventures of two marines Spike and Bat.
In this story they are romancing two ladies when other suitors show up. Unfortunately these suitors happen to be the local hoods. Spike and Bat flee the scene and attempt to hide out in a Turkish Bath but they are flushed from there and then hide in a hay wagon. They then have to flee when the hay wagon is set afire by a girl who carelessly tosses a cigarette.

I picked this page up when I first started collecting art just because it was an inexpensive vintage page with a bunch of young ladies.
You would think that a vintage war page would belong in the collection of super war art collector Peter Roe but he much too serious a collector to indulge is such foolishness as this page.

Hay, little girl, is your Betty home?
Did she go in flames and leave your horse alone?
I got a wagon fire

Oh, oh, oh
I'm on fire

Tell me now, Betty, is he good to you?
And can he do to you Sparling's Tell It Too?
Oh no, Spike and Bat desire

Hor, Hor, Horse
I'm on fire

Wow, you've had this for many decades! I love the bad girl, especially in panel four. Peter Roe should reconsider his lack of desire for art pages featuring bad girls on them, but some people just prefer cold metal vehicles named after women!

vintage Sparling art plus a bunch of fine young ladies, I see why you picked it up. Peter's loss is your gain!

A nice, fun page - and so interesting to see such early Sparling work.

Hey, you talkin' to me, huh? You talkin' to me? And no smoking! Only Marines can smoke in their comics! School teacher looks like she's just smoked a joint...police, arrest her!
