Description
From Byrne’s first run on The Sensational She-Hulk, this page is pure joy: Jennifer Walters bleary eyed at her desk, cracking wise, stepping out into the world with that trademark Byrne confidence and for f's sake that hair.
You can tell Byrne was completely in love with this book, it shows in every brushstroke. You can feel him cutting loose, giving She-Hulk her own voice, witty, human, glamorous, and meta before meta became the norm.
Also that bottom panel. The distracted boyfriend pose, years before the meme, straight from Byrne’s imagination. (In all likelyhood probably referenced from a memory of an Archie comic)
For me, Byrne is not just a great She-Hulk artist. He is the She-Hulk artist. Nobody captured her mix of power, humor, warmth and beauty the way he did.

When I think She-Hulk I think Byrne. Fantastic page and that last panel is amazing and should be considered the "prototype" for the meme, ha!

This is absolutely top notch Byrne She-Hulk content/art/writing and the whole 9! I'd much rather have something like this than anything action. Gorgeous stuff and charming/humorous as well of course. As for the inspiration behind the distracted boyfriend meme, I think your reference to Archie makes absolute sense and I actually own a Harry Lucy Archie page from 1964 which also could be looked at as an old school prototype of that meme ;)

I've been rereading Sensational She-Hulk recently for the first time since the series was coming out monthly. Been disappointed because the 4th wall stuff feels annoying now, whereas I used to really dig it. But the art, as this page shows, is as great as it ever was. Kudos, Chuck!

The way he inked himself here, I wished that he would ink his own work this same way for the rest of his career.

As much as I love this page, which is a lot, is also how angry I am with you about this photograph.

It's oversized! too big for my scanner...I could scan in pieces but I'm always afraid closing the lid will damage the artwork...Photo will have to do...
