DescriptionI always liked Doc Samson -- maybe because he was the perpetual underdog to the Hulk or maybe I just though his orange costume was cool. Either way, I was happy to read this issue as a kid and I didn't find out until much later that it was a repurposed solo Doc Samson story created for one of their showcase comics. Based on the original art, it looks like this was intended for Marvel Spotlight. While the art is by George Tuska as opposed to Sal Buscema, Ernie Chan's heavy (but very nice) inking makes this look somewhat consistent to other Hulk issues from that time period. Keith Pollard also drew a few new Hulk related pages to help tie the story in with the Hulk's continuity. In spite of no Hulk on the page, I was happy to pick this up at the 2025 New York Comic Con. It's great! I think Chan not only adds weight to the page, but it has the same kind of finish he put in Conan magazines showing a pure of heart heroic character.

You are so right about Chan's heavy inking having a tendency to remove some artistic differences - but as you note, the inks are also great. But I guess what does stand out is Tuska's composition and use of space. Both make this a great page!
