Description
I love the wonderful lines of Reginald Cleaver. He did work for books and magazines, primarily the London Graphic. Never tire of seeing a newly discovered piece by him. His work deserves much more recognition.

A grand affair with everyone at their finest.  Cleaver showed the oppulence and the wealth that the commoners could only daydream about with so many exact details in wardrobe, adornments, and the refined manner that set the standard for everyone.

Marcus,

thanks for your comments. He was wonderful in capturing period settings, then contemporary, and detail. Always had wonderful characters throughout.

That's some beautiful work, Jim.  I'm unfamiliar with Cleaver's work, but I love how he used the airiness of the figures in the lower corners to frame the the main action.  Lovely work.

Rob,

Thanks for the kind comments. I first stumbled across his work a couple of decades back, and was immediately drawn to it. By all means look him up, and discover a trove of beautiful art. You won't be disappointed.  I find the quality of his lines to be amazing. Each new piece I discover is a revelation. He loved to do central illustrations in graphite, surrounded by ink vignettes. Mostly, these were featured in the London Graphic. I think his brother, Ralph, is more remembered, but his work lacks the fluidity of Reginald. He deserves much more recognition in the art community. I would love, someday, to see a book focusing on his career. He was very prolific, working from the late 1800's till his passing in the 50's.
