Description
Original artwork for Master Comics #123 (Fawcett, 1951) page 7 by Bill Ward (pencils and inks), for the supernatural tale "Capt. Marvel Jr. and the Flying Desperado." Captain Marvel Jr. is trying to aid the Roman Messenger of the gods Mercury in finding his famed, but lost winged sandals, which had been stolen from a local cobbler by a goon named Hixcox. This page features Hixcox as he loots every home on Millionaires Row, loaded down with jewelry and money as he flies home wearing Mercury's winged sandals. The magnificent one-third splash middle panel is obviously the "money shot" of this piece, that features the "Little Blue Cheese" himself as he carries Mercury back down to earth to question the local cobbler as to the possible whereabouts of Mercury's winged sandals.
Superhero artwork from this time period is very scarce and this excellent page is a wonderful example from the Golden-Age of Comic Books. Large "twice-up" art, in which the board measures approx. 14.25" x 22.5" with an image size of 13" x 18."
