Swamp Thing by Mike Allred

Well it’s been a while since I’ve posted, some life events and other hobbies have consumed the majority of my time at the moment. But I figured the spooky month of October and receiving a commission recently (due to time payments) would be the best time to return.

During the last comic art live, I was lucky enough to get the opportunity to commission one of the greatest artists/cartoonists in comics. The prompt I gave was Swamp Thing traveling through the Green. Not only do I enjoy Mike’s art style but his story telling/movement through his art, so I felt this would be fitting. But wow, he never disappoints huh? The level of detail I was not expecting. Along with Laura’s colors, it just adds the depth and layering to Mike’s inks.

Attached are my reference images that I put together, that I sent to Simon. I was hoping Mike would incorporate the Parliament of Trees somehow and I’m glad to see he got that sense of what I was looking for. The presence of their disapproving eyes watching Swamp Thing travel within the Green.
