Description

Kazu Kibuishi appeared at the Eastern Rim Funny Book and Vintage Con which is a totally free to attend con in Baytown, TX. How a free con gets great guests is beyond me, but it does happen every year.

This year (2025), Kazu Kibuishi, the creator of the Amulet series. I recently started the series and really like it so meeting Kazu was a treat.

Of course, I asked him to draw his characters for my sketchbook. He drew:

Emily, our protagonist and bearer of the stone
Trellis, a mysterious elf who may be a friend or foe
Leon Redbeard, an unknown to me

Great Sketch by a great story teller! Fyi: free admission cons are not usually free for vendors/artist alley- whose table fees help pay for the event. it's like FCBD. Free to the Fans, a cost for shops/publishers.

Free shows are attractive as they have greater turnout and creators can actually meet the audience they want to sell their books to. Advertised right, it's like a promotional tour for book signings. This is more involved with a sketch that you'll remember this experience by. You'd support them more than someone you'd have to pay to get a signature on a commodity to be flipped.
