Wallace Wood. Norm Saunders. Robert Crumb. Basil Wolverton. Jack Davis. Art Spiegelman. Bill Griffith. Gil Kane. Jay Lynch. John Pound. Bob Powell. Tom Sutton. Bhob Stewart.

Topps (staff and freelance alike) artistic line-up of the late 20th century reads like a Hall-of-Fame team of talent. (And the group above is not close to a complete list.)

That list of course also needs to include the incomparable Drew Friedman, who among other Topps gigs, illustrated the classic Toxic High trading card series.

I�ve been hunting for a great Friedman original and found this 1994 Mars Attacks cover by complete accident --- browsing in a flat file in Scott Eder�s NJ gallery. This is Drew�s only Topps cover, and one of the few he�s ever created for any comics publisher. And who was Director of Publishing at Topps at the time? Yours truly.

Boom! It became a must -have. Scott loves it as well, so it took some heavy duty haggling to pry it away. And I mean, heavy duty. But�I published the damn thing, so it must have been fate.

Now hanging proudly in my office, I think it�s the fastest I�ve had anything framed.

The mixtures of techniques is a stand out for not only his work in comics, but just as a Friedman piece in itself! The art is on point and Topps in my book!
