DescriptionIn order to honour the artistic legacy of the great Carlos Pacheco who we lost 3 years ago today, here is a nice page from the Fantastic four’s first volume (remember those?) very last issue. Tom Defalco came up with a fun story that, in the context of the Onslaught crossover, brought about all the FF allies and enemies in for the last two issues of that series. So here we begin in the first panel with the Red Ghost and his super apes (Igor, Miklho and Peotor ^^) creating some mayhem inside the Baxter Building. Peotor is tasked with helping poor Kristoff who is on the ground. Carlos clearly knew his apes as each is given the proper care and distinction from the other. Then we get a very nice second panel in which Carlos forced some perspective on the reader by use of that really big techy gun Igor transformed into, leading the eye down to poor Nathaniel Richards. Thankfully, the Fantastic Force (…) comes to the rescue in that last panel with a super impressive high kick from personal fav’ the Black Panther kicking poor Igor into oblivion. Pacheco had not drawn T’Challa a lot before that shot so I was quite excited to read that at the time and was even more so to get a published example of one of my fav’ artist drawing one of my fav’ characters when I bought that page. I also find that the way Igor is kicked out of his transformation with his tail appearing out of the gun is good cartoony fun. While we have seen pages of those 2 issues floating around a lot, they have become pricier recently since/due to Carlos’ untimely passing. The main inker credited for this issue is Wiacek with some help from P.C.Russel, Milgrom and Candelario. I don’t recognize the first two’s styles here so while I’m certainly not sure about who inked this page, my money would be on either of the last two. In any case the fact remains that this is a nice action page from one of the best superhero artists who ever did it. Let’s remember him for that. Social/Sharing |

Very nice Pacheco page (love that Black Panther kick!) and a fitting tribute on the anniversary of his passing.

Great page from the final issue of the original title. I think Carlos only got the chance to do two issues before they relaunched FF with Jim Lee. But Carlos got to do a much longer run when they relaunched the title again with Alan Davis. Was lucky enough to get a cover from that run, but foolishly sold it. I'm down to one Pacheco piece now since I sold my Bishop pinup to his son Alex for the Pacheco museum in Spain. Thanks for posting this tribute on the anniversary of his passing. I wish he was still here creating amazing artwork. But he left us a beautiful and timeless legacy.

I don't even want to know what "Fantastic Force" is. Let's just focus on the art, rather than the decisions made by the House of Bad Ideas. The very first thing I noticed about the page is the Silver Age styled, three panel layout. Naturally it brings to mind the pulse pounding dynamism of Jack Kirby, which is good, because then Pacheco continues that theme with the very dynamic Black Panther figure in the last panel. Both of these artistic decisions seem to indicate that Pacheco likely had the idea to channel the power of Kirby when he drew this. Already 3 years since he passed? Wow, time sure does fly as I get older.....

Perspective all the way through where characters and the action are moving to and fro based on the way Pacheco moved the camera in this page. Dynamic at every turn!

A beautiful way to commemorate a very sad occasion, F M; a lovely example of Carlos's technical skill as both draftsman and storyteller. Starting with the foundation of a compelling page layout and continuing through to the fine touch he wields in those fluid pencils of his, there's life, energy, and great mechanics infused into this thing at every step. I -love- panel 1's stack of baddies (that also showcases some of the powers of the Super-Apes!), and although panel 3's Panther kick is (of course) the money shot, I am so impressed with panel two's "simple complexity", and how (through staging and camera placement) Carlos takes our eye by the hand (as it were) and conveys the necessary info (so smoothly and instantly) as it moves through his panel. There's threat (gun), villain, and victim - boop, boop, boop - right down the line, instantly sorted by our brains in a single glance. A fun page with great fundamentals at its core - a really moving (and fun) impressive tribute. R.I.P. Carlos.

Thanks for sharing. Carlos hit everything he did out of the park. Those two Fantastic Four issues he did were jam packed with so much cool art. Congrats!

Fantastic looking page by one of the greats! Pacheco's work on the last two issues of the regular FF title made me wish that he was continuing as artist rather than turn the book over to Jim Lee and his Wildstorm crew. I'm glad that Carlos was able to return to the FF years later.
