DescriptionI forgot who posted the Willingham commission a few years back on CAF. But I asked them how to score one. He said to sign up for Bill's newsletter and every so often he offers to do commissions. So patience paid off recently. I got my request in for my favorite Elementals character; Shapeshifter. A few weeks later I was told it was finished and I thought, well, that's fast. A week later I'm out the door, running late for work and I saw the art leaning again the wall. Bring it in and keep thinking about it all day because I have no idea what I've got there. Finally home twelve hours later and I'm a little worried about opening the package. But it's like Bad Pitt in Seven, "What's in the box?" I pull the strip off the envelope and look in. Hmmm, looks like three 11 X 17 boards and some loose stuff. Ok, I guess he really wanted to protect the piece. Cool. Then I pulled the boards out. Oh. My God. At first it doesn't process because I saw board three first: Vortex getting chocked out. Then I saw board two: Shapeshifter's distorted body doing a Reed Richards maneuver (mind you I didn't realize Fathom was in the background and Monolith in the foreground). Ok, this is what I wanted. Lastly board one: Morningstar and Monolith's arm. Huh? A minute later I've arranged them in the correct order because I didn't look at the back of the boards where Bill labeled what order they go in. Once again my mind goes blank except the thought of: do I get this framed or put it in a portfolio and how am I going to see this as it's meant to be? Yup, to make another movie reference here this time from So I Married An Axe Murderer, the opening scene where Mike Myers gets what looks like a punch bowl of cappuccino and says that's there's been a mistake, he ordered the large. Yup, I ordered an 11 X 17 and I got a drawing that takes up three boards. This is utterly amazing!Sorry about the bad cutting and pasting job. Look at the additional images to see the individual parts. Social/Sharing |
