Description

To prove that he's not crazy, Harlan brings Hanneke (and her luggage) to his "Fortress of Solitude" in the Theatre of Lost Footsteps:

“Please take the young lady's suitcase to a room on the same floor as mine, and make sure it's a comfortable one.”

“Indubitably, Mr. Draka.”

“I thought your theater would be a more intimate, more... modest place. Where did all this magnificence come from? I hope my room is close to yours at least, or I'll feel lost in here. Even better if it were actually yours.” (Is that more Hanneke’s fear or desire talking?)

“I'll make sure they're connecting rooms. Welcome. I am Caleb Lost, director and owner of this theater, and I am also the first violinist of the orchestra, young lady.”

“Oh! I... I'm Hanneke, Hanneke Geerts from Ghent. Nice to meet you.”

(Kurjak ambles up) “Should I introduce myself to your friend too?”

“Of course! Emil Kurjak, my right-hand man and blood brother.”

(Hanneke) “A true man of action, I'd say. Your muscles confirm my suspicion that Harlan isn't just a sedentary bookseller, Mr. Kurjak. Nice to meet you.”

“The pleasure is mine. Harlan never told me you were so pretty, Miss Geerts.”

“Likewise, he had hidden your very existence from me until today. Tell me, Harlan, are all your friends as charming as Caleb and Emil? Are there others?”

(A voice from the shadows) “No more dudes. But if you're still interested in getting to know me, Miss Geerts, you'll have to come over here. I have a little problem with the sunlight.”

“I'm glad I'm not the only girl! But please, everyone, call me Hanneke. And you are...?”

The female voice from the shadows is of course Tesla. Hanneke addresses her with the informal pronoun "tu" instead of the formal pronoun "lei."

Lovely gothic lighting. The figure emerging from shadow in the bottom left is so effective. Nice pages.

The depiction of the wall mural in the two panoramic panels, shown from different angles, is spot-on and very zoomable!

I can't take my eyes (or my zoom button) off those murals in the background - but pretty excited from a storytelling standpoint that Kurjack is here and soon Tesla as well!

Crosshatchy goodness!  Even the solid shadows have a texture because those patterns fade into them so well!

Love the lighting choices the artist chose to effectively tell the story.
