Description

San Diego 2000.
I went to Mr.Colan's table pretty early to get on his sketch list and he was already there drawing at full steam, of course with his lovely wife Adrienne at his side taking care of the list: she asked what I would like him to draw for me and I went for Silver Surfer.
When I got back about one hour before closing time, he was still drawing like possessed, but would take a little break every once in a while to exchange some words with the fans who were at the table watching him work his pencil magic, only to be affectionately reprimanded by Mrs.Colan with a �Gene, stop talking: the line is still long�, which would get a slight roll of eyes out of him and a chuckle out of the little crowd.
It�s fun to see interaction of this kind between (with all due respect) old couples, and it totally reminded me of my grandparents on my father�s side. Goes with it, I love the Colans.

Adrienne left us in 2010. Gene just left us as I'm updating this. We're all a little poorer.

Wow, Enrico, I cannot believe I never saw this before. Just gorgeous...Like most of Gene's work, you can tell there's just as much passion and thought in the background as in the main figure. With Gene it's all about the overall composition and effect, not just one detail. Thanks for your kind words about him and Adrienne. I couldn't agree more...I miss them both so much. But they live on in work like this!
